HMS – Height and Angle Measurement System

Accurate vehicle dynamics data – referenced to the road surface

The HMS (Height Measurement System) from Sensoric Solutions extends the possibilities of optical vehicle dynamics measurement. In addition to precise ride height measurement, the system – depending on configuration – also determines wheel camber angle as well as vehicle pitch and roll angles.

Unlike IMU-based systems, which only measure relative to the horizon, HMS provides angles referenced directly to the road surface – delivering more realistic and reliable test data.

Its modular sensor arrangement enables flexible setups for a wide range of applications in vehicle dynamics testing, motorsports, tire and suspension development, and ADAS validation.

  • Proving ground and indoor testing
  • Tractor–trailer torsion measurement

System Overview

The HMS system consists of compact HMS 1 laser sensors, mounted at various points on the vehicle, and an integrator box that combines and synchronizes all signals. Configuration, sensor assignment, and live monitoring are performed via a convenient web interface over Ethernet.

System Configurations

Depending on the number and arrangement of sensors, the following measurement modes are possible:

  • 1 sensor → Absolute ride height at a single point

  • 2 sensors on one wheel → Camber angle measurement relative to the road

  • 2 sensors in line → Pitch or roll angle relative to the road

  • 3 sensors freely positioned → Simultaneous pitch & roll measurement without special frames

  • 4 sensors in H-frame → Pitch & dual roll signals, including torsion (e.g. tractor–trailer)

  • + OMS 7 / OMS Race → Combined output of all dynamic variables in one system, synchronized via CAN

All data is processed in the integrator box and output synchronously over CAN / CAN-FD, making it easy to integrate into existing DAQ systems.
