With the OMS 3, Sensoric Solutions adds a single-axis sensor for longitudinal dynamics to the OMS series. It measures speed and distance without contact – even on low-texture and curved surfaces, all the way to roller coaster tracks.
The OMS 3 is a new optical-inertial sensor that measures vehicle speed and distance without contact on particularly challenging surfaces. Its optics, designed specifically for longitudinal dynamics, deliver precise data even on low-texture and curved surfaces – making measurements possible even on roller coaster tracks.
Designed for Longitudinal Dynamics
Alongside the OMS 4, the OMS 3 is the second single-axis sensor in the portfolio and covers applications where the surface makes measurement difficult. Unlike the dual-axis OMS 7, which also measures lateral velocity and sideslip angle, the OMS 3 is dedicated to longitudinal dynamics. It achieves a non-linearity of less than ±0.1% FS. Three operating modes define how much IMU data is included – up to purely optical measurement without sensor fusion.
The OMS Race ECU processes the signals at 1 kHz and outputs them via CAN FD, CAN or Ethernet. It has about one quarter of the volume and one third of the weight of the OMS 4 and OMS 7 ECU. IP67 protection and a vibration-resistant design make it suitable for harsh environments.
Typical Applications
Braking distance measurement, tire testing, indoor testing, and measurements on rail vehicles, roller coasters, mobile machinery and in industrial settings. The OMS 3 can be operated simultaneously with the OMS 7, HMS and WVS and is configured through a common software platform.
“Longitudinal dynamics are no longer measured only on the road, but also on rails, indoor floors and even roller coasters. With the OMS 3, we developed a sensor designed specifically for these surfaces.” – Kai Gilbert, CEO
