Five Years of Sensoric Solutions

Five years ago, Sensoric Solutions was founded in Wetzlar, Germany. Today, customers around the world measure with sensors from Wetzlar, in vehicle development, motorsport and rail applications.

The roots

The story of Sensoric Solutions began long before the company was founded: Andreas Niessner, Matthias Meurer, Torsten Schmidt and Michael Dörr have been developing optical distance and speed sensors for many years, first at Corrsys-Datron Sensorsysteme GmbH in Wetzlar and later at Kistler. In 2021, they decided to bring their ideas for a new generation of sensors to life in a company of their own.

Kai Gilbert, then CEO of imc, supported the project from the very beginning. He was convinced by the optical-inertial measuring principle: it combines optical distance measurement with an inertial measurement unit (IMU), enabling precise measurements independent of satellite reception. Together with finance expert Roland Schiff-Martini, Gilbert provided the necessary capital. Sensoric Solutions was founded on August 26, 2021.

The first sensors

After around two years of development, the OMS 7 was launched. The dual-axis, optical-inertial sensor captures the longitudinal and lateral motion of the vehicle. In addition to vehicle speed, it measures sideslip, pitch and roll angles, accelerations and angular rates, among other parameters.

Shortly afterwards, OMS 4 followed as a single-axis version for braking, acceleration and speed measurements.

Automotive: from sensor to measurement system

In 2024, Mercedes-Benz decided to switch its optical measurement technology for vehicle dynamics testing entirely to sensors from Sensoric Solutions. The deciding factor was low-noise, real-time measurement of the sideslip angle. With active chassis systems such as rear-axle steering, sideslip angles are very small. Tuning such systems requires even minor changes to be measured precisely.

With the height measurement system HMS and the wheel vector system WVS, Sensoric Solutions extended its range to include vehicle ride height, camber angle and three-dimensional wheel motion. Together with the OMS, the measurement data from all systems can be recorded in sync. In addition, the company offers the WFT wheel force transducer for measuring wheel forces.

The company’s product development has also been recognized at the messweb masters awards. Readers of the German trade portal messweb voted Sensoric Solutions the winner in the Automotive Testing category three years in a row: in 2024 for the OMS 7, in 2025 for the HMS and in 2026 for the WVS.

Motorsport: new insights into the sideslip angle

For motorsport, Sensoric Solutions developed the OMS Race, a particularly lightweight, robust and compact version of the OMS.

One of the first users was the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team. Precise sideslip measurement gave the engineers additional data on tire behavior and vehicle balance. In October 2024, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) certified the OMS Race for use in Formula 1.

Other Formula 1 teams and racing series followed, including NASCAR, IndyCar and Formula E. In NASCAR, the sensor records data at accelerations of up to 100 g. The sensors are also widely used in Formula Student, where around 40 teams run OMS sensors.

Rail: brake distance measurement in public transport

Sensoric Solutions has not only been successful on the road. Demand for its sensors has also grown in the rail sector. Following Verkehrsbetriebe Karlsruhe, Zurich’s public transport operator Verkehrsbetriebe Zürich (VBZ) switched the regular brake distance measurements on its tram fleet entirely to sensors from Sensoric Solutions. Sensoric Solutions supplied eight complete solutions based on the OMS and the TMX BrakeTest system. Other transport operators such as SSB in Stuttgart and BVG in Berlin followed, as did train manufacturers such as Alstom. Sensoric Solutions also offers solutions for train kilometrage and rail network monitoring.

Growth

Sensoric Solutions started with four employees; today there are eleven. The international sales network includes partners in 15 countries. Since 2025, a dedicated subsidiary in Florida has served the North American market.

Outlook

Sensoric Solutions will also bring its four sensor systems OMS, HMS, WVS and WFT together on the software side. A shared software platform is set to synchronize the measurement data of all systems and simplify operation. This includes integrating the data from the WFT wheel force transducer.

“Looking back, founding Sensoric Solutions was the perfect decision. Today, we work with leading companies and institutes worldwide across a wide range of fields – from vehicle development and motorsport to rail transport. That fills the whole team with pride and joy. Every day, it gives us a good feeling to develop products that are truly needed and to work with our customers on their solutions. I look forward to the years ahead with our great team.”
